BRAND STORY

The story of Turkish Airlines began on May 20, 1933. Fesa Evrensev, one of Türkiye ’s first aviators, was the General Manager. There were five aircraft in the fleet and fewer than thirty employees. 

As “State Airlines,” the airline’s first overseas flight, from Istanbul to Athens, was conducted in 1947. The airline became “Turkish Airlines” in 1955 and joined the International Air Transport Association (IATA). In 1958, adding five Viscount 794 aircraft to the fleet, a new era began in the history of Turkish Airlines with the switch to jet-powered aircraft. 

In 1959, Mesut Manioğlu designed the sleek Turkish Airlines logo, inspired by the graceful flight of wild geese. In 1961, an important first for the Company took place: pilot captains Zihni Barın and Nurettin Gürün brought two F-27 aircraft from the United States to Istanbul in a 30-hour flight. 

Achieving success each day, Turkish Airlines scaled a new height in its fiftieth year, with 2.5 million passengers reached in 1983. Flying to Europe, the Middle East, the Far East and Americas, the Company was now a world-famous brand with more than five thousand employees. 

Always progressing towards more ambitious goals, Turkish Airlines eased the ticket purchase process for passengers with the website created in 1998, and e-ticket and online check-in applications launched in 2003. With the renewed corporate website in 2017, the Company started to serve passengers in their native languages, offering language options such as English, German, Japanese, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Korean, Chinese, and Russian. 

Turkish Airlines, which continues its journey with the slogan “The airline that flies to the most countries in the world,” not only brings people, countries and continents closer together, but also continues to inspire new experiences.

Safety & Well-Being

The World Class Audit Report ranked Turkish Airlines as the best in its class for “health safety” standards. To ensure that passengers feel secure, Turkish Airlines offers safety and comfort amenities to passengers throughout the flight process, including protective panels at check-in and information counters, hand sanitizers, information screens, in-flight hygiene kits, amenities kits and an onboard hygiene specialist.

Turkish Airlines passengers can easily complete check-in transactions with their mobile phones by using a QR code at kiosks in the airport. The aircraft boarding procedures start from the back rows and are directed by the cabin crew. During the flight, washbasin and cabin cleaning are performed regularly. Passengers are provided with information cards on disinfection procedures in the aircraft and catering is performed under hygienic conditions, with packaged meals and utensils.  

Passengers are offered a truly enjoyable travel experience with the PressReader application, which makes it easy to access thousands of magazines and newspapers digitally during the flight, and the Fly Good Feel Good content, which provides advice on topics such as nutrition, exercise, sleep and hygiene. Near the end of the flight, the cabin crew announces every stage of the distance, safety and landing procedures.

Sustainability

Turkish Airlines demonstrates its sensitivity to sustainability before, during and after the flight. The digital PressReader application, which contains thousands of magazines and newspapers together, is among these initiatives. Other measures include supporting local producers in the selection of food and products, using environmentally friendly packaging, washing and repackaging biodegradable blankets, and disinfecting and reusing the headphones. In addition, the cabin crew performs sorting operations following each flight.

Turkish Airlines also pays attention to working with environment-friendly brands in collaborations and successfully instills this awareness in its corporate culture through environmental trainings provided to employees.
